Notes: Low-growing evergreen shrub commonly found in bogs, swamps, and shorelines of Northeastern North America. Attractive to pollinators and supports specialized native bees including Andrena bradleyi, Andrena carolina, Panurginus atramontensis, Habropoda laboriosa, Colletes productus, Colletes validus, and Osmia virga. Birds and mammals (including humans) eat the berries. Best planted in a boggy and acidic area such as near a pond shore.
