'Fireworks' Rough-Leaved Goldenrod (Solidago rugosa 'Fireworks')
Height, Spread: 3-3.5 ft, 2.5-3 ft
Water/Soil: Average or moist-occasionally dry or wet, well-drained, clay, loam, sand
Light: Full sun
Bloom: Late summer-fall, small golden flowers in panicles
Native Range: Eastern North America
Qualities: Attractive to pollinators, Wildlife resource, Deer resistant
Notes: The compact cultivar of NC native plant, Solidago rugosa. 'Fireworks' spreads slowly via rhizomes and is less aggressive than its parent plant, meaning it'll do well in a garden. Attractive to bees and butterflies, resistant to deer, and birds eat its seeds in the winter. Best used in garden borders or a naturalized meadow.
