Notes: Deciduous woody small tree or shrub commonly found in moist forests, riparian areas, wetlands, and disturbed areas throughout NC. Attractive to pollinators and many mammals. Birds eat the fruits and will use them as a nesting site. Fruits are edible and can be made into baked goods, jellies, or wine. Effective erosion control in wet sites is best used alongside a pond, river, or woodland area. Best in naturalized areas as it can have a bit of a scruffled appearance and will spread via suckers if not removed.
