Notes: Deciduous shrub commonly found in swamps, bogs, and other wetland areas in NC. It is found growing wild statewide except for in the Sandhills region. Its fragrant pink flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Several species of birds eat its fruits in the fall. It thrives in full sun and nutrient-rich, acidic, boggy soil and is best used in a pollinator or rain garden or by a pond.
