Notes: Perennial wildflower native to all parts of NC except for high mountain regions. It is commonly found in rocky outcrops, dry woodlands, and meadows. Especially attractive to hummingbirds and supports several specialized native bees (Melissodes fimbriatus & Lasioglossum oenotherae). Birds eat its seeds. This plant can be a vigorous grower so it is best used in naturalized meadows or as erosion control on banks.
