Notes: Herbaceous perennial wildflower commonly found in wetland areas of the coastal plain and lower Piedmont. Attractive to hummingbirds and other pollinators and some species of native bees will over winter in its stems. Seeds provide food resource for songbirds and small mammals in the winter. Best planted near rivers or ponds or in a rain garden. It is commonly used for erosion control in wetland restoration.
