Notes: Small deciduous tree commonly found in rich soils in floodplains or along creeks in cove forests in the Mountain and western Piedmont regions of NC. Its flowers are attractive to pollinators, including hummingbirds, and it is a larval host for 7 species of butterflies and moths. Squirrels and songbirds will eat the seeds. Best used in a woodland garden or as a specimen plant on a lawn.
