Notes: Deciduous adaptable shrub commonly found in woodlands throughout the southeast. Known for its striking fruits that split open to reveal red seeds in autumn. Seeds are an important food resource for birds and small mammals. Foliage is loved by deer so best to keep caged until well-established. Plant in a woodland garden or naturalized area with some shade for best results.
