Notes: Small deciduous tree commonly found growing on woodland edges. A wonderful wildlife resource, it is the host plant for the Spring Azure ( Celastrina ladon) and multiple specialized native bees visit its flowers (Andrena genus). Deers were also browse on its leaves and birds and mammals will eat its fruit. And most importantly North Carolina's state flower!
