Canada Wild Ginger (Asarum canadense)

Notes: Evergreen ornamental ginger commonly found in rich, moist hardwood forests in the Mountains and the Piedmont of NC. It is pollinated by ants, flies, and beetles and is a larval host plant for the Pipevine Swallowtail butterfly (Battus philenor). Spreading via rhizomes and seed, it makes an attractive groundcover, best used in a woodland or shade garden.
