Sweet Flag (Acorus americanus)

Native Range: Northern USA and Canada
Qualities: Host Plant, Erosion control
Notes: Commonly found on the mucky freshwater shorelines of Northern North America. DNA evidence supports Acorus as the oldest surviving line of monocots. Sweetflag is a host plant for Plateumaris shoemakeri, a leaf beetle. Best placed along pond edges, can help with erosion control.
