In the movie, The Martian, fictional astronaut Mark Watney makes growing potatoes on Mars look easy, but growing plants in space is actually really hard.  Aurora Toennisson gives a peek into the world of astrobotany research.  Come learn about ways to grow plants that are "out of this world"!

About Aurora:

Aurora Toennisson is a Plant Biology PhD student at NC State University.  Prior to returning to school to get a Ph.D., she worked for several years in an agricultural entomology lab.  Her current research focuses on plant adaptation to spaceflight and plant-microbe interactions.  When not growing plants in the lab, she spends way too much time tending a huge garden in her yard.
